Indigenous Education Goal
Honoring Indigenous worldviews and local First Nations’ culture through school-wide cultural learning opportunities.
Ways We Will Support This Goal
- Weekly language and culture learning time in every class taught by our Aboriginal Education staff
- Weekly elder visits organized through Nadleh Whut’en First Nation to support students in learning Carrier language
- Traditional land acknowledgment read daily by grade 3 students in our morning message
- Continuation of community connections and incorporation of virtual event
- School-wide activities (i.e: individual art activities, heart garden, drum-making, educational Potlatch in June)
- Individual culturally focussed projects with students (ribbon skirts, ribbon shirts)
- Planning for Video Stories with Elders Project
How Will We Know?
We will look at student, family, and community engagement in cultural learning opportunities and school events to monitor progress toward this goal. We also listen to feedback from students, families, and our communities.
To share our progress towards our Indigenous Education goal, we will feature cultural learning opportunities and events in our weekly newsletter and will invite families and the community to join us.
